The road works entailed the partial re-construction of National Road No 1 Section 25x from the southern boundary of Mookgophong (km 18+90) to Andries (km 35+65).The project is located within Limpopo province.
The project road consisted of two distinct sections namely:
- An urban section through Mookgophong from km 18+90 to km 22+20, consisting of a 4-lane (3.7m wide lanes) single carriage configurations with parallel parking: and
- A rural section north of Mookgophong from km 22+20 to 35+65, consisting of a 2-lane (3.7 m wide lanes) single carriageway with 3.0 m wide surfaced shoulders on both sides.
The project road was resurfaced during 2006 with a 13.2 mm single seal (bitumen-rubber binder), which ravelled severely during the construction period. The pavement was exhibiting severe structural distress in the form of rutting, crocodile cracking and pumping. The design development confirmed the need for structural strengthening of the pavement by means of partial reconstruction and overlays for both the urban and the rural sub-sections.
The original main road through the town which was upgraded to SANRAL specifications.
